Stycast 2851MT Blue is a one-component epoxy encapsulant specifically engineered for general potting applications that require high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. This blue liquid system is designed for high-voltage assemblies, such as power supplies, transformers, and coils, where protecting sensitive components from electrical failure is critical. Because it is a single-component material, it eliminates the need for complex mixing and weighing, though it possesses a slightly grainy consistency due to the specific filler size used to achieve its superior thermal properties.

In its uncured state, the material has a high viscosity of 140,000 mPa·s and a density of 2.6 g/cm³. To ensure a void-free finish, it is recommended to vacuum degas the mixture at a pressure of 1 to 5 torr until bubbling ceases. The system offers significant processing flexibility with multiple heat-cure schedules, ranging from 5 hours at 80°C to 1 hour at 120°C. For maximum performance in demanding environments, a post-cure of 2 to 4 hours at the highest expected operating temperature is recommended to fully stabilize the epoxy matrix.

Once cured, Stycast 2851MT Blue forms an exceptionally rigid shield with a Shore D hardness of 94 and a thermal conductivity of 1.9 W/m-K. It provides excellent chemical and solvent resistance across a continuous operating temperature range of –55°C to +155°C. Its electrical integrity is supported by a volume resistivity greater than 1×10¹⁵ ohm-cm and a low dissipation factor, ensuring reliable insulation for power-dense electronics. With a low coefficient of thermal expansion (30 ppm/°C), it minimizes mechanical stress on embedded components during intense thermal cycling.
