Loctite EDAG 437 is an extremely conductive, copper-filled, thermoplastic coating designed to provide superior electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) shielding and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for electronic equipment housings. This copper-coloured material is specifically formulated for compatibility with commonly used plastics and is ideal for high-performance applications such as reflective coatings on parabolic antennas and plastic housings for medical or consumer electronics. It offers a unique combination of high conductivity per micron of dry coating and excellent environmental resistance, ensuring stable electrical properties even after extensive heat cycling.

In its uncured state, the coating features a solids content of 63.5% and a viscosity of 4,500 mPa·s, making it suitable for application via conventional pressure pot spray systems. For optimal performance, the product is typically diluted with MEK; however, for solvent-sensitive plastics like ABS or Polycarbonate, a mixture of MEK with Isobutanol or Diaceton Alcohol is recommended to prevent stress cracking. The material is designed for a nominal dry coating thickness of 50 to 75 µm and offers an efficient theoretical coverage of 23 m²/kg at a 10 µm thickness.

Once applied, EDAG 437 dries to the touch in approximately 5 minutes and reaches its full physical and electrical properties after air drying overnight at room temperature. The cured coating delivers exceptional shielding performance with an attenuation of 50 to 70 dB at a 50 µm thickness and a low sheet resistivity of <0.5 ohms/sq. It is remarkably durable, featuring a pencil hardness of >9H and a 5B adhesion grade on Lexan panels, ensuring the shielding layer remains intact across its continuous operating temperature range of –40°C to 95°C.
