Powered by People: Roger Dent – Managing Director

This month’s Powered by People shines a spotlight on a familiar face in a new role. In July, Roger transitioned from Operations Director to Managing Director, taking on the responsibility of leading HITEK as the business continues to grow and evolve.

Roger brings with him a wealth of experience from his time overseeing operations and now has the opportunity to shape HITEK’s direction from the front. His perspective blends strategic thinking with a strong focus on people, qualities that reflect both his leadership style and the values at the heart of HITEK.

Leading in a Growing Environment

For Roger, the best part of being Managing Director is the overall challenge that comes with guiding HITEK in a growing, evolving, and winning environment.

But leadership, as he explains, is about more than strategy:

“Sometimes the role is about making decisions without having all the information—managing risk, balancing competing priorities and opinions, and setting the tone of leadership and values.”

Teamwork at the Heart

When asked what he values most about working at HITEK, Roger didn’t hesitate: the team.

“I could never be a one-man band. I enjoy supporting the daily challenges and interactions the team have in servicing our customers, as well as supporting the team themselves.”

It’s clear that people are central to his approach. One of his proudest reflections is seeing colleagues arrive at HITEK, develop their skills, and either take on more responsibility here or move on to new opportunities with gratitude for their time at HITEK.

Beyond the Office

Away from work, Roger describes himself in three words: serious, funny, loyal. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, swimming, football, martial arts, golf, and dining out—“stuff that feeds my soul,” as he puts it.

And a fun fact? He can say the longest village name in the world—Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch—off by heart!

As Roger takes the helm, his focus remains on leading with balance, supporting the team, and ensuring HITEK continues to thrive in a fast-moving environment. We’re proud to be powered by his leadership as we look ahead to the next chapter of HITEK’s journey.

Powered by People: Israel Spry-Brittain – Marketing Developer

Powered by People celebrates the individuals who bring their skills, creativity, and personality to HITEK. This month, we’re introducing our Marketing Developer, Israel.

Building our online presence

Israel looks after our website and online presence while also programming new tools and pages with specific goals. It’s a role that constantly sparks curiosity and learning.

“It’s a massive rabbit hole, every project produces more and more ideas to move our online foothold forward.”

Flexibility is another part of the job he values.

“The ability to mould my day how I want it to be is huge. So long as the deadline is met, what and when I do things isn’t an issue.”

Much of what Israel does goes unseen by the public, but that doesn’t make it any less impactful. Behind the scenes, he’s making changes that improve how we work as a company and prepare us for the future.

A keen promoter of improvement

A highlight of his time at HITEK was covering an entire department by himself for around a year. Of course, not all of his achievements are so serious. With a smile, he recalls

“managing to sneak a pair of Crocs into random images for internal social content”

Can’t stop, won’t stop!

Outside of work, Israel doesn’t sit still for long. He’s been the videographer for Scunthorpe Rugby Club for seven years, produces and edits three weekly YouTube shows, and enjoys cheering on the LA Kings when he’s not walking his dogs on Sundays. Every year, he also sets himself something new to learn—whether that’s experimenting with song mashups or creating unique December projects that range from daily Pokémon card openings to recording an AI plays Pokémon series.

Creative

When asked to describe himself, he chose: “Dedicated, inquisitive, creative… and maybe an internet funny man too.”

That blend of curiosity, drive, and humour makes Israel an invaluable part of the HITEK team – both in keeping us digitally strong today and preparing us for tomorrow.

Powered by People | Hannah Dalton

Hannah Dalton Costings scaled e1754986363990

Our people are at the heart of everything we do at HITEK. In this edition of our Powered by People series, we’re shining the spotlight on Hannah Dalton, our talented Cost Estimator, whose mix of expertise, humour and team spirit make a real difference every day.

Learning, Sharing, Supporting

As a Cost Estimator, Hannah plays a vital role in ensuring customers receive accurate, timely and informed costings for their projects. It’s a position that requires both precision and product knowledge, something she genuinely enjoys.

“I enjoy learning about all the products we sell and being able to share this knowledge with our customers.”

But the role goes far beyond raising quotes. Any time a new part is added to our system, the Costings team takes the lead in creating it — a process that involves far more behind-the-scenes detail than many might realise.

Teamwork and Office Icons

Ask Hannah what she loves most about working at HITEK, and the answer comes easily: the people.

“My co-workers — absolute icons.”

It’s no surprise, then, that many of her most memorable moments here involve shared laughter. In fact, she keeps a sticky note filled with the funniest office quotes, a light-hearted pick-me-up that gets read at least once a week and gets new additions daily!

Three Words and a Tuesday Tradition

When asked to describe herself in three words, Hannah goes for:

Trustworthy. Yapper. Slay.

While she considers herself an open book, one thing you can count on is her spontaneity. Free time activities change depending on the day, except for Tuesday nights, which are firmly reserved for the weekly pub quiz.

“I’m up for pretty much anything, but I’m committed to pub quiz on Tuesdays.”

The Final Word

With her quick wit, team spirit, and can-do attitude, Hannah brings an energy that’s impossible to miss. Whether it’s tackling a tricky costing or acing the pub quiz, she’s proof that work is better when you’ve got great people by your side.

Powered by People | David McAllister

David McAllister Technical Manager 5 scaled

At HITEK, we know that technical expertise is only part of the story. What sets us apart is the people who bring that expertise to life – combining deep product knowledge with a real commitment to our customers. Our Technical Manager, David McAllister is a brilliant example of just that.

Solving Challenges Others Can’t

Customers tend to come to David when they’ve hit a wall – when something’s not working as expected, or they’re developing a product that needs robust protection for its electronics. It might be shielding against electromagnetic interference, withstanding environmental conditions, or absorbing microwaves. Often, it’s a combination.

His role isn’t simply about answering questions. It’s about interpreting the challenge, identifying potential risks, and matching the right materials to the task – all while ensuring compliance with evolving regulations like REACH and RoHS. A deep understanding of both the products and the customer’s requirements is essential.

The information he provides can have significant implications – particularly in sectors like aerospace, defence, and marine, where protecting sensitive electronics isn’t just about performance. It’s about safety. In some cases, lives depend on getting it right.

From Desk to Battlefield

One memorable project came from a customer with a damaged, unidentifiable radar-absorbing foam. Not only was a replacement sourced, but David also identified an environmental coating that, when applied, improved the performance of the absorber.

The solution was tested at the University of Sheffield and is now used on HM Forces Chinook helicopters. It’s an achievement to be proud of – but it’s also representative of how HITEK operates. That level of care, effort, and technical problem-solving is simply part of the day-to-day.

Driven by Curiosity, Backed by Data

David is known for being thorough, dedicated, and curious – qualities that have served him well throughout his career. His decisions are backed by hard data, safety sheets, and practical understanding, but equally by instinct and experience.

He doesn’t just provide a solution – he anticipates what might be coming next, helps customers understand their options, and gives them the confidence to move forward knowing they’re protected.

A Life Less Ordinary

Outside of his HITEK story, there’s a rich and surprising story. While serving in the RAF, he spent two decades as a mobile disco DJ – even hosting his own radio shows at the Waddington Air Show and RAF Stanbridge. His love for music and people led him to organise the UK’s biggest pop quiz for BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Going for Gold appeal in 1997.

Over the years, he’s raised around £25,000–£30,000 for a wide range of charities, including the MS Society, Cancer Research, RNIB, Help the Aged, and many more. His ability to bring people together and make a difference stretches far beyond his day job.

Family, Football and Good Tunes

Today, he enjoys spending quality time with his family and is a proud Newcastle United fan – since 1967, no less – which he jokes has taught him patience! A music lover and sports enthusiast, he’s still driven by the same curiosity and dedication that define his work at HITEK.

The People Behind the Protection

He might not seek the spotlight, but his contribution to HITEK is hard to miss. From complex technical advice to collaborative customer support, David helps turn challenges into solutions – and brings a whole lot of character along the way!

It’s this blend of expertise and personality that makes HITEK what it is. Powered by people – and proud of it.
