HITEK are very pleased to announce that we have successfully achieved the Investors in the Environment Green Award, which is the highest accreditation that a company can be given. Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme. It helps organisations of all sizes to save time, money and reduce their impact on the environment. All companies are given support and advice along the way.
Our Operations Director also achieved the Great Green Star Award, “this is awarded at the Investors in the Environment’s discretion to an organisation that has gone 'above and beyond' and has exceeded the Investors in the Environment criteria for Green Accreditation. It recognises a business for their efforts to achieve and the individual within it driving it forwards,” said Becky Taylor from iiE.
Here at HITEK, we have undertaken many steps to gain this accreditation and have set SMART targets to work towards. So far we have implemented LED lighting, a new energy efficient boiler, sensors have been fitted to communal areas to ensure lights are turned off when not in use and we have 3 hybrid cars in our fleet and for these, charging stations have been installed in the company car park.
Investors in the Environment commented on our progress from Silver to Green, “I am very proud of the progress that HITEK have made with their environmental endeavours, they aimed for Silver level accreditation but actually achieved Green with: an excellent set of resource reductions, excellent levels of communications with staff and visitors, and they fully embraced the culture of iiE within the business headed up by their enthusiastic Green Champion and Operations Director Roger Dent.”
To highlight our achievements: 95% iiE criteria score, 4 additional actions and we have achieved the following resource reductions to baseline measurements when normalised per employee:
Gas -68% | Water -51% | Company vehicle CO2 -35% | Carbon -27%
“HITEK Electronic Materials Limited are proud to associate themselves with Investors in the Environment (iiE). I feel it offers a regionally led tailored approach with excellent support, expert advice and mentoring opportunities which far outweigh the traditional ISO 14001 route taken by other companies. As a result we have developed a working partnership that is cost effective, well organised and with exceptional networking opportunities. I would not hesitate in recommending Becky, John and the team at The Green Business Network who lead the Yorkshire and Humber region,” commented Roger Dent, Operations Director.
