Jim Lawton completes The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

JL 3 PeaksI had been planning to do the 3 peaks for a couple of years but never got round to it. This year I decided that I would do it in June but again, due to work commitment and the changing of my role within HITEK, this didn’t happen.

With the forecast for the country being good for the week commencing 3rd September I decided that Friday the 7th September would be the day.

As the day approached the weather forecast wasn’t too bad in the Dales but not as good as the rest of the country.
I arrived in Horton-in-Ribblesdale at 6.30am on the morning of the 7th. The weather wasn’t looking promising! The cloud base was very low and there were no hills in sight.

I set off from the café in Horton at 6.38 and within 10 minutes was putting on my wet weather gear – this would remain on for the duration of the walk!

I can honestly say that I have never experienced such poor weather in the Dales! For the whole walk I did not see any of the peaks, Pen-y-ghent, Whernside or Ingleborough. Visibility was down to 30 mtrs for the majority of the day.

The time limit for the challenge is 12 hours for the 26 mile route. I am proud to say that I completed it in 11 hours and 20 minutes.
I would do it again but I would want to be able to see the hills that I am climbing rather than just 30 mtrs ahead and behind me.

HITEK celebrates its 25th Anniversary

HITEK was founded in 1985 and this year marked its 25th Anniversary.

All staff and family were invited to HITEK’s 25th anniversary celebrations at The Pink Pig farm in Scunthorpe, which included close up magician Tom Wright, who had the guests mesmerised with his skills.

As part of the celebrations HITEK made a generous donation of £1500 to the British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association (BLESMA) this was very gratefully received by BLESMA Representative Charley Streather who attended on the day. Managing Director John Terry made the decision to donate to BLESMA as HITEK has very strong links with the military.

A total of 75 staff members and family made it to the celebrations, the event proved very successful and a good time was had by all.
